DailyRoto Fantasy Golf: The Masters DraftKings and FanDuel Strategy

April 4, 2017

On this edition of the DailyRoto Golf Podcast, Colin Drew and Christian Drappi team up to discuss the Masters with a special guest! Pari, a DFS Golf Twitter legend, join the DR regulars to talk about the greatest tournament of the golf season - THE MASTERS.

The three begin talking about Augusta National and how the course can affect fantasy outcomes. Colin talks about strokes gained metrics, and mentions a fantastic free article he wrote on DailyRoto.com. It analyzes the correlation between strokes gained putting, off the tee, from long approach and short approach. You should all read it before listening to this pod! The pod is good this time, but the article is a higher bang for your time. Here is the link: https://dailyroto.com/the-masters-dfs-golf-mastering-strokes-gained-correlation-for-augusta/

They move to discussing the dynamics of the cut line: the Masters has a rule like no other event, and will slightly affect DFS outcomes. They discuss the weather, which will be nasty on Thursday and Friday. They suggest you check the weather on Wednesday night or even Thursday morning if your schedule allows. The weather forecasts change all the time, because weathermen are never right, but you should at least use the most recent erroneous forecast.

Next, the team move to game selection. Colin feels high and mighty because his head-to-heads on DraftKings are filling quickly this week. But Christian and Pari know better and advise expected value seeking players to prioritize overlay on FanDuel GPPs. The group closes this section by thinking about where newer players will look for DFS advice. They throw some shade on Rob Bolton, drawing an analogy to fake news propaganda websites like InfoWars.

The group begins discussing specific players. The trio agrees that Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are the favorites to win. After chatting about the headliners, they dig into some of the value plays. They touch on chalky names like Jon Rahm and Adam Hadwin, but also share some of their favorite sleepers too. Pari shares his European Tour knowledge, as many of those guys are appealing from both a value and ownership sense. On that note, the three transitioned to guessing ownership percentages for the DraftKings Millionaire Maker.

If you haven't already, check out these guys on Twitter. In particular, Colin (@drewby417) and Pari (@HitTheHighDraw) have very good golf-centric feeds. Also sure to follow the bird himself, Christian (@cdrappi) and his two golf bot friends (@DFSalbatross and @albatrossSQUAD)
